Home made vs shop bought treats what is the difference? This morning my little side kick and i made this scrumptious apple and blueberry muffins for morning tea. Out of curiosity I popped the recipe into my nutrition analysis software and compared it to something similar from the shops – Woolworths blueberry muffins. So this is how it came out (comparing 100g of each food) the home made version had about 1/3 less calories, about 1/3 less fat, less than 1/2 the amount of sugar, and whilst woolies did not advertise the fibre – from the ingredients mine has much more fibre, and of course the shop product had many more additives and preservatives. So it really pays to bake from home. 👩‍🍳 👨‍🍳

Ingredients

– 1.5 cups of self raising flour,

1 cup rolled oats,

0.5 cup of sugar,

3 tablespoons bran,

2 teaspoons of cinnamon,

1.5 cups milk,

1 egg,

2 apples finely diced (skin on),

1 cup of frozen blueberries,

0.5 cup of canola oil.

Method

Mix together in a large bowl and put into patty cake or muffin papers in a muffin tray, and bake in a moderate oven until nice and golden brown in the top:) 👩‍🍳 👨‍🍳 happy baking!
